Party in the L.B.D! Miley Cyrus offers celebrity fashion advice! There are two valid explanations as to why the Little Black Dress has remained at the forefront of our closets since Audrey Hepburn first donned the long trusted threads.  First may be that the LBD truly is a durable purchase, lasting season after season, escorting us from bridal shower to wedding to Saturday night; hiding those problem areas that even a thousand squats haven’t yet solved; showcasing those killer thighs we accidentally got from climbing subways steps religiously (escalators are for the weak-minded).  The second, and more probable reason for the LBD’s prominence though, is that we’ve collected so many “staple” dresses that our closets are bursting with go-tos, so that it’s become a task to merely decipher which one to in fact go to.  I mean, how many times have we rationalized that a girl can never have too many little black dresses while gazing, eyes glazed over, at our reflection in the mirror of the Bloomingdales fitting room?  It’s enough already! Miley’s fashion forward look is so novel because it acts as a declaration.  That she probably bought her body hugging slip moments before stepping onto the red carpet is irrelevant to the lesson we can take away from the circumstance.  We all have Miley’s LBD (or a nuanced version) hanging somewhere in our wardrobe.  Maybe yours is an inch longer (or shorter), maybe it has a sequin embellishment, maybe the straps are a bit thicker—whatever the minor adjustment, we might as well substitute the B for basic, because that’s precisely  what the LBD is.  Been there, done that

Colored Pencil and Gouache Diamond and Sapphire Bracelet Rendering by Joana Miranda In my other profession as a symphonic violist, I unfortunately am limited with my jewelry accessorizing.  Wearing bracelets is out since they clank distractingly against the instrument.  For that reason, I don’t often think to design bracelets.  However, I do love them and on my days off, in addition to enjoying that I can wear perfume (another no-no in our orchestra contract), I usually wear my charm bracelet with the 5 charms that I hand-fabricated at the bench.  Perhaps a testament to both my musical background and my passion for jewelry – I love to hear the jingling of the charms as they bump against my watch band.

A Design a Day – Day 26

Okay this is (hopefully) the last time I bang on about the Peter Lang bracelet that I’ve been lusting after.  I mean I really, really want it, but not $780 want it.  I’ve looked for approximations of the style, but nothing quite has that feel that the PL has.  But Style for Style dragged my eyes in a different direction over to the quite unique Nervous System . And they rested quite happily on this beautiful bracelet which fills a requirement that most don’t, it’s adjustable.  I’m quite tiny and with that comes tiny hands and wrists that bangles / bracelets often slip off. Radiolaria via Nervous System Also tying in with my amazing shoes it’s made of silicone rubber not exactly the same material but in the family And if they just stay in stock until I get paid (new job so a fair way away) I have the perfect adornment for my wrist and if my flowers don’t grow it won’t be such a big deal.

I’ve been checking out some of the other WordPress blogs and I noticed that people write much more regularly than I do and I’m slightly envious of my co-bloggers.  My blogging regularity is somewhat haphazard.  I do realise this blog doesn’t exactly get read by millions but I do like the fact that anyone could read this  (Hello you, welcome).  The thing is, once I finish my office gal by day job and get home, the LAST thing I want to do is sit down at my pc and rattle off some admittedly hilarious blogs.  So I’ve been thinking of ways to blog on MY own terms and it hit me – I can BLOG while I JOG!  Every night I hit the gym for a workout which includes half an hour on the treadmill.  So I can blog while I jog AND I do this on my darling BlackBerry Curve and update my imaginary readers on what I’ve been doing from a creative point of view.

Charity Auction is Live!

Sent to me by my lovely and much-missed Faroese friend Ronja, this bracelet is amazingly beautiful and I adore it. It’s from somewhere in either the Faroe Islands or Denmark – I don’t know, and if anybody knows what BNH stands for, please let me know. It came in a black box engraved with Smykkur og Ur (that’s jewellery and watches in Faroese) and wrapped in Marimekko fabric (google image that if you haven’t heard of it – it’s a vintage enthusiast’s heaven, wonderful ‘60s inspired Finnish prints)

I don’t know about you, but I love the magical fairy-tale look of vintage aurora borealis jewels.  They can range in price from around $5 to $150, depending upon condition, brand, rarity, and appearance.  These are my top picks — one for each month of the year! Vintage Gems for All Year Round

At the prompting of many people, I’ve finally started in on the idea of selling some of my chain creations, a little at a time.  I don’t have a stock or anything yet, but, right now, I’m doing bi-color stretch bracelets.  The colors used here are the colors of a local high school and a local elementary school. Bicolor Bracelets The construction is EPDM rubber and anodized aluminum.  They retail for $7 and wholesale (for fundraisers and whatnot) at $5 each.  Shown are the 6.5in. “small” version.  Medium hasn’t been measured yet, but is close to 7in., and larges are 7.75in.  (Measurements are approximate.)  The EPDM is stretchy and somewhat UV resistant.  I have many different colors I can get, all of which would approximate any colors you’d want.  My materials are from The Ring Lord (http://www.theringlord.com/) , a Canadian company that buys U.S.
