Gemstones are Mystical and Beautiful
Many ancients believed that gemstones contained powers that were unearthly and that wearing a gemstone at a particular time could help the wearer in many ways. Although that is not as prevalent today as thousands of years ago, gemstones definitely remain in the hearts of millions and there are 12 different gemstones attributed to each month.

Swarovski, Swarovski, and Gemstones
Not officially part of the Spring Collection, but still an integral part of the Cluny Grey Jewelry Collection are our Swarovski crystal pieces. Whether the crystals stand alone in a jewelry piece or are mixed with freshwater pearls, as we often do, or with gemstones, Swarovski crystals are classics and the jewelry pieces we make from them are classic also.

Can Spring Be Far Behind?
After 55 inches of snow this year, a new record here in Washington, D.C./Arlington since 1899, it feels strange to think that it is almost March and that, despite the mounds of snow everywhere (there are still some large 5 -6 feet tall mounds) Spring is just around the corner! Spring means new jewelry – LOTS of new jewelry! And the Spring colours this year are wonderful, or at least I think so, probably because one of the biggest colours for Spring is my favorite – turquoise.

Amber Wire Wrapped Ring
Amber has got to be one of my favorite stones. I love rings and can’t help stopping by those little kiosks in the mall with all the wonderful amber jewelry to look at! Recently I thought I might try making a wire wrapped ring. I really had no design ideas, I thought I would make a simple sterling silver wire wrap ring.

Gleam, Glimmer, Shimmer!
According to Vogue and other important fashion magazines, gold is back in fashion. Of course, I don’t think that it was ever out! I love the gleam of gold, and while I will concede that there are certain gemstones that are best served by sterling silver or white gold, (think rose quartz) I generally prefer my own jewelry to be gold or a mixture of silver and gold. One of my favorite combinations is lapis, carnelian, and turquoise; all of these gemstones look great with silver (although lapis always looks better with gold), but put them all together and you’ve just got to have yellow gold to match the richness of the colours! Above , a unique bracelet with lapis, carnelian, and turquoise accented with 14 karat goldfilled elements (with the exception of the toggle which is vermeil), and below, the matching necklace and dangling earrings

Sterling Silver Wire Wrapped Freshwater Pearl Ring
I decided to try my hand at hand made wire wrapped rings! I love it, it takes a little practice (be sure to practice several time with craft wire) but once you get the hang of it, it comes easily. Just be sure to PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE. I’ve still got a lot of learning to do!! I’ve only experimented with freshwater pearls so far, but I’ve got so many ideas for handmade rings swirling in my mind and not enough time! he he
